Autumn sailing in Croatia is an experience you definetly shouldn't miss. What makes Croatia so attractive for boaters during this time of the year? Apart from the fact that weather conditions are more than good for sailing, there are no usual crowds in marinas, the vessels' choice is wider and charter prices are rather cheaper than in the peak of the season.
Autumn sailing in Croatia is an experience you definitely shouldn't miss. What makes Croatia so attractive for boaters during this time of the year? Apart from the fact that weather conditions are more than good for sailing, there are no usual crowds in marinas, the vessels' choice is wider and charter prices are rather cheaper than in the peak season.
Autumn brings many advantages- winds are more stable, there are many of them, they are blowing constantly without bigger oscillations and because of the more frequent and longer night-time moisture, the boat gets washed away from salt drops so you can enjoy your sailing more and worry less about cleaning. You are all alone at the open sea, there are only seagulls flying next to you and the only sound you hear is not the sound of an engine, but the noise of the sea that you bravely defy with the power of wind and sails. This is an every sailor's dream!
Autumn on the Croatian coast is spectacular and offers you dozens of places that you mustn't miss on your trip. We're offering you some suggestions that might be of interest to you:
Zadar area - Kornati - what people call ''the art of God'', you definitely shouldn't miss. The Kornati are a collection of 76 islands different sizes, almost completely uninhabited. Although the Kornati are very popular in all year's seasons and each of them has a special charm, in autumn the Kornati are the most beautiful! They are not only giving you a magical look, they also provide you good protection in case the weather is not ideal. With a handful of bays and protected coves you can be carefree. You definitely shouldn't miss the cliffs and the salty lake „Mir“ located in Telašćica Nature Park (Dugi otok). People say that on a clear day, from the top spot on the viewpoint „Grpašćak“, usually when it's clear after bura, they can see the coast of Italy.
Šibenik area - on your route, you shouldn't miss the historic town of Šibenik where you can join in the charm of narrow, stone streets, historical monuments and many places offering local delicacies. Šibenik is one of the oldest towns on the Croatian coast and as such, it retells many different stories. There is also an inevitable National park „Krka“ in this area around Šibenik. It is a natural phenomenon of sedren cascades that make up the two most beautiful waterfalls available for visitors. As the Krka River flows through the forest area in Autumn, the colour palette surrounding you is simply indescribable. As, usually, at this time of the year the river gets swollen, the waterfalls show in its full splendor.
The island of Mljet - which is also one of the 8 national parks in Croatia, is hiding the Odyssean cave. According the legend, the terrible warrior and the famous Greek hero Odysseus experienced shipwreck on a marvelous island dominated by Kalipso, the goddess of beauty, silence and peace. Weak on beautiful women, Odysseus fell in love with Kalipso and spent seven years with her. The folk tradition tells that the Odysseus cave is on the eastern coast of the island of Mljet. Why was a world traveller, Odyssey, delighted with this place you can find out only if you visit it.
Island Vis - away from all the worries - as the locals of this island say, it's away from the coast and completely careless. Vis is surrounded by almost untouched clear sea and bays ideal for anchoring and fishing. One of them is Stiniva, which was declared as the best beach in Europe! The good news is that in the fall there is no summer crowd and you will be able to enjoy the beach of the big white gravel. There is one smaller restaurant where you can eat or drink something if you don't have other plans. There are also two beautiful bays - Budihovac, which has a sandy beach to be reached only by boat and the bay of Mala Travna. Vis is full of tiny taverns, as well as luxurious restaurants, so you can take advantage of this excursion for lunch on land. The island is also rich in caves, so be sure to visit Green and Modra caves which take the breath away of all the accidental visitors, as well as celebrity film makers!
All in all, this is just a small piece of what autumn sailing can bring to you. As well as relaxing and spending few days absorbing new experiences, you will be able to take memories, for the rest of your lives, with you!
